HK Express has announced the resumption of Hong Kong(HKG)-Ishigaki(ISG) flights! UO812 and 813 will operate daily. HK Express is owned by Cathay Pacific, so going via Hong Kong will be a convenient transit point for participants from many countries. JinAir of South Korea has announced that it will start flights to Seoul(ICN) and Ishigaki(ISG) on April 3. There will be five flights a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. (Update Feb 23, 2025)
For example, a transfer in Hong Kong on an itinerary from Sydney to Ishigaki Island would be very convenient.
With CX138 and UO812, you can leave Sydney at night, have 2 hours to change planes in Hong Kong, and arrive at Ishigaki Island before noon.
HK Express serves Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, etc., so there may be good tickets available.
For participants from China who wish to use the HK Express, you can fly to Hong Kong from Beijing Daxing (PKX) or Ningbo (NGB). There are probably numerous other flight options from Mainland China to Hong Kong.
Participants from Korea can fly to Hong Kong from either Seoul(ICN), Busan(PUS), or Jeju Island(CJU).
The four HK Express destinations in Vietnam are Hanoi(HAN), Da Nang(DAD), Phu Quoc(PQC), and Cam Ranh(CXR).
Travel from Thailand by HK Express is possible from Bangkok(BKK), Phuket(HKT), and Chiang Mai(CNX).
It also serves the Philippines (Manila and Clark) or Malaysia (Penang).
In addition, Cathay Pacific’s network covers many other countries. There are many flights from Singapore (SIN) to Hong Kong.
Direct flights from Seoul to Ishigaki Island will start on April 3. This is convenient for AOMSC2025 participants from Korea.
If you are taking a domestic Japanese flight to Ishigaki Island (ISG), changing planes after entering the country at Naha, Okinawa (OKA) is convenient due to the large number of flights. It should be noted that AOMSC2025 participants from outside Japan who are traveling to ISG via OKA will need to pick up their checked baggage at OKA, go through immigration, and then check in again for their domestic flight to ISG.
Participants from China can take direct flights from Beijing (PEK) and Shanghai (PVG) to Okinawa (OKA). However, since there are only two flights a week from Beijing, you may want to use other airports. Flights from Shanghai to Okinawa are operated daily.
For travel from Korea, there are three direct flights from Seoul (ICN) to Okinawa (OKA). In addition, Eastar Jet has been operating flights to Busan (PUS) and Okinawa since December 2024.
For travel from Taiwan, direct flights to Okinawa (OKA) are available from Taipei (TPE), Taichung (RMQ), and Kaohsiung (KHH).
Direct flights from Bangkok to Okinawa are available from both Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK).
There is a direct flight from Singapore (SIN) to Okinawa (OKA).
There is a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Okinawa (OKA).
