Keynote talk title: A Lesser-Known Plastic Waste Problem: Plastics as Sources of Hazardous Chemicals Leaching into the Ocean
Dr. Sunghwan Kim received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Ohio State University in 2003, focusing on the structure and reactivity of dissolved organic matter using ultra-high resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. He is currently a Professor at Kyungpook National University, where he has been a faculty member since 2009, and the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Convergence Research Center. Dr. Kim serves on the editorial boards of prominent journals, including Energy & Fuels (ACS publications), Journal of Analytical Science and Technology, and the Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, where he is the Associate Editor. His research encompasses environmental chemistry, mass spectrometry, plant metabolites, and petroleum, with a focus on microplastic degradation. Dr. Kim has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications, contributing significantly to advancing analytical chemistry.
